Importance of Communication in Couples Counseling
It may sound cliche, but a lack of ineffective communication is often at the root of many couples’ issues. Each individual communicates differently, with many contributing factors. We also each listen and interpret others differently. Therefore, couples must understand how the other listens and communicates.
From cultural differences to childhood instability, a person’s history can influence how they interpret how people speak to them and how they speak to others. The goal here is to learn how to communicate well with your significant other and because everyone is different, getting there will be different for everyone.
While communication is vital to the process, there will still be tension if there is unresolved conflict within a relationship. Our therapists strive to mediate conflicts and to help couples learn new skills in conflict resolution. This can be rooted in anything from infidelity to financial difficulty. Whatever the challenges you face, an unbiased, trained third party can help bring them to a resolution.
